What is SIP?

SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) is a method of investing a fixed amount regularly in mutual funds. Instead of investing a lump sum, you invest a fixed amount every month, which helps average out market volatility through rupee cost averaging.

SIP Return Formula

FV = P x [((1+r)n - 1) / r] x (1+r)

Where P = Monthly SIP amount, r = Monthly rate of return (annual rate / 12 / 100), n = Total number of months.

FAQs

Is SIP better than FD?

Over long periods (10+ years), equity SIPs have historically given higher returns (12-15%) compared to FDs (6-7%). However, SIP returns are market-linked and not guaranteed, while FD returns are fixed.

Can I stop my SIP anytime?

Yes, SIPs can be stopped anytime without any penalty. There is no lock-in period for regular mutual fund SIPs (except ELSS which has a 3-year lock-in).
